Airlines India, China booming markets: Embraer Nina Varghese
Chennai , Sept. 15 Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer of commercial, executive and defence jets, has identified India and China as "booming growth markets'' in civil aviation, said Mr Frederico Fleury Curado, Executive Vice-President, Airline Market, Embraer. Mr Curado said that this has resulted in too many operators and aircraft without the required growth in airport infrastructure. He said currently there were about 200 aircraft operating in India with orders placed with aircraft companies for double that number. The surge in the civil aviation sector, especially with the entry of low cost carriers, has resulted in the need for good airports, ground-handling facilities and more pilots. The proliferation of airline companies, he said, would result in rationalisation and consolidation, as it happened in the US and Europe.
Paramount Airways flight
Mr Curado was here for the inauguration of the third flight of Paramount Airways on the Chennai-Madurai sector. The airline was the launch customer of Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft in India. He said that the success of Embraer in India would depend on the success of the Embraers flying in India. He added that the business model adopted by Paramount Airways, of flying niche routes and avoiding trunk routes where there is cut-throat competition, has been effective. Paramount Airways, which now operates 24 flights a week plans to take it to 50 flights with the induction of two more aircraft by the end of October, said Mr M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Paramount Airways. He said that Paramount will offer a 50 per cent discount for senior citizens and group discounts for both school and college students.
