Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept. 15

The rupee gained against the dollar on Friday, tracking the movement of yen.

"The yen was stronger against the dollar by 30 basis points on cross currency movements," said a dealer at a private bank. The home currency opened strong at 46.08, touched an intra-day low of 46.15 to end at 46.12. On Thursday, the rupee had closed at 46.17.

"Exporters were seen selling in the market. Positive sentiment in the domestic equity market also strengthened the rupee," the dealer said. In forwards, the six-month premium ended at 1.30 per cent (1.36 per cent) and the 12-month premium at 1.30 per cent (1.34 per cent).
