Food credit declines

Mumbai, Sept. 15

The gross bank credit has gone up by Rs 16,483 crore to Rs 15,92,628 crore as outstanding on September 1, according to the Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

It includes food credit, which decreased by Rs 6 crore to Rs 36,529 crore and non-food credit, which rose by Rs 16,489 crore to Rs 15,56,100 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector through bank credit and investment in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper, outstanding as on September 1 was Rs 16,34,650 crore.
