Agri-Biz & Commodities - Tea
Clarification

With reference to the photo with the caption "Row over Production" published in these colums on September 13, the Indian Tea Association (ITA) clarifies that it has not projected a lower crop for 2006.

ITA has projected a crop of 930 million kg and the cumulative stock position would have declined by 27 million kg. This has emerged from the production-imports-exports-consumption matrix and is not "a ploy to raise prices".

ITA has not sought any review from the Tea Board for review of the production estimates and it is another association that has submitted its position on the issue.
