Spot rubber prices improve

Spot rubber rates finished better at the weekend. Covering purchases and enquires from the non-tyre sector kept the market slightly positive as sellers stayed back expecting a recovery in international prices during the week ahead. RSS 4 improved to Rs 82.50 and Rs 83 respectively at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 82 a kg on Friday.

Futures gain

The rubber futures stayed in tune with the physical trend on NMCE. The October contract closed at Rs 80.21 (Rs 79.68), November contract at Rs 79.40 (Rs 78.35) and December contract at Rs 80.00 (Rs 79.41) and January at Rs 81.20 (Rs 80.00) per kg for RSS 4.

The trading volumes totalled 330 tonnes with 239 tonnes in October, 34 tonnes in November and 43 tonnes in December and 14 tonnes in January.

The spot prices per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 82.50 (Rs 82.00); RSS-5: Rs 79.50 (Rs 78.50); Ungraded: Rs 77.00 (Rs 76.25); ISNR 20: Rs 78.50 (Rs 78.00) and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 64.20 (Rs 66.30).
