Nortel bags GSM-R contract

Nortel has bagged a multi-million dollar contract to provide GSM-R equipment to the Indian Railways. The contract for signalling and telecom equipment was awarded by the Indian Railways to a consortium comprising Ansaldo Signal, its Asia-Pacific subsidiary Union Switch & Signal, MR Trading and Leighton Asia (Southern) Ltd, according to a statement from Nortel.

Leighton has contracted Nortel for the GSM-R network. Nortel did not reveal the exact value of the contract. The Nortel GSM-R wireless railway communications technology will be used along the 751-KM of rail track in Uttar Pradesh. Nortel had previously won a similar contract in West Bengal.
