A `Kisan Mela' (farmers meet) will be organised by the Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore next month. The three-day meet to be held between October 4 and 6 will showcase the sugarcane technologies developed by the institute and elsewhere which include the new varieties, planting methods, integrated nutrient management, bio fertilisers, by-products and various systems of cultivation such as micro-irrigation, value addition etc.

According to a communication from the institute, among the highlights of the `Mela' will be an exhibition on sugarcane and its by-products in which agri-enterprises, banking, sugar factories, distillers, pesticides/fertiliser companies and irrigation equipment makers are expected to participate.

Seminars highlighting sugarcane varieties, advances in cane agronomy and current trends in integrated pest management in sugarcane will be held on all three days of the mela, the Institute's communication said.
