Hyderabad , Sept. 20

The Andhra Pradesh Government has in-principle agreed to develop airports at Ramagundam, Nellore and Kadapa to let airlines operate their services to these Tier-II cities.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, gave this assurance to Capt. G.R. Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan, when the latter met him on Tuesday. The meeting was a follow-up of the just-concluded TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India) meeting held here recently.

REQUEST GRANTED

Official sources said Capt. Gopinath had requested the Chief Minister to develop these airports to let the low-cost air carrier to improve the connectivity in the State by linking these smaller cities. The carrier operated flights to Visakhapatnam, Rajhmundry, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Hyderabad.

Besides providing air connectivity, the airports would also be handy for the Government in times of natural calamities to take up relief measures.

Capt Gopinath had already announced his intention to connect six more places, including Karimnagar and Kadapa, soon after the airports were made ready for operations.
