BoB starts Singapore operations

Bank of Baroda inaugurated its Singapore operations with an offshore banking unit. The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, inaugurated the office, which is bank's 60th overseas office, said a press release from the bank.

The offshore unit will offer wholesale banking and service to corporate customers. The Singapore office may act as a hub for its Asia-Pacific region, the release said quoting Dr A.K. Khandelwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Bank of Baroda.

Recently, the bank received approval from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to upgrade its local operations to a full-fledged branch. The bank has also plans to start operations in West Indies, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Qatar and Bahrain and upgrade its representative offices in China and Malaysia to full branches, the release said.
