Opinion - Letters
Education reform

This is with reference to "Make knowledge utilitarian" (Business Line, September 18): The author has rightly questioned the education system. It is foolish to expect first generation learners to complete the high school syllabus that is thrust on them.

Such children have a serious handicap and it is, therefore, necessary to provide a structured curriculum to bring them up to the next level.

They have to be brought into the main stream through dedicated efforts and a step-by-step approach.

It is hoped that good sense will prevail and the curriculum simplified.

Balakrishnan
