New plough THE SCROLL BOARD and the farm kiosk would carry comprehensive practices related to 136 crops. BOTH THE ITEMS were presented by IFFCO as part of its farm support services.
Coimbatore , Sept. 21 To facilitate greater knowledge on farm products price movement in the market, an electronic scroller-board displaying the realtime rates of commodities provided by the National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) was inaugurated at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) here today. Along with the scroller board, the TNAU will also sport an agricultural information kiosk specially developed by the co-operative fertiliser major Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Ltd (IFFCO). Both the NCDEX electronic scroll board and the farm kiosk, which would carry comprehensive crop practices related to 136 crops being raised in different agro climatic zones, were presented by the IFFCO as part of its farm support services.
Price Discovery
The TNAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr C. Ramasamy, who formally commissioned the NCDEX price scroll-board and the kiosk, told presspersons that these new facilities would support the university faculties, departments and the students engaged in specialised commodities analysis and market related research activities and those studying in the MBA programme on agri-business. Price discovery for agri products was emerging as a key area of understanding in the commodities market and this has created a need among the producers and the end-users of commodities to have early price signals.
Free of Cost
The IFFCO Marketing Director, Mr D.K. Bhatt, said his organisation as a stake-holder in the NCDEX had undertaken a task of providing free of cost NCDEX display terminals as well as the farm kiosks for co-operative societies, apex co-operatives, marketing federation and agricultural universities across the country. IFFCO, which had proposed to 1,500 such scroll boards /kiosks has so far completed 100 installations. The farm kiosks were developed with inputs provided by various farm universities including the TNAU.
