P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Sept. 21

The volume catalogued for the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions this week has once again come down.

The volume offered now totals only 9.68 lakh kg - lower than 9.82 lakh kg of last week.

Volume rose last week after a fortnight of continued low offerings.

The volume now offered is a 20-week low. In the corresponding sale last year, 11.68 lakh kg were offered.

Of the 9.68 lakh kg now on offer, as much as 6.87 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and only 2.81 lakh kg, dust grades.

As much as 8.91 lakh kg belong to CTC while only 0.77 lakh kg belong to the orthodox variety.

The share of orthodox teas is low among both the leaf and dust category.

Only 0.31 lakh kg of the leaf grades belong to orthodox category while 6.56 lakh kgs, CTC. Only 0.46 lakh kg amidst the dust belong to orthodox, while the balance 2.35 lakh kg belong to CTC.

The low offer can help the price rise provided the demand appears strong.
