Prices firm at Coimbatore tea sale

Tea offerings slipped marginally from a level of 4.93 lakh kgs in the earlier week to 4.31 lakh kgs last week. Of the total offerings, 1.94 lakh kgs were of the leaf grade and the balance of the dust. There was good demand for the high grown larger orthodox leaf and well-made brokens. The CIS exporters and major blenders were active at dearer levels. The demand was fair for the orthodox dust. Exporters absorbed most of the teas. Few internal traders were also active. The prices ruled firm to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2. There was fair demand for the good liquoring CTC dust. Medium liquoring varieties opened steady and ruled firm to dearer. However, some Pakistan type bolder dusts declined by a rupee in value. Plainer varieties were quoting firm to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2, others irregular around the last. The orthodox high grown was picked in the Rs 66-85/kg price band, while the medium CTC teas between Rs 49-58/kg.
