Chennai , Sept. 22

The Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu Circle, has tied up with VETA English training academy to sell VETA's "Home Study Course" kit at all head post offices in the State from September 25.

Initially about 8,500 kits, grouped in packs of six kits, will be made available at the head post offices. Requests made from sub-post offices or branch post offices will be delivered within 48 hours. The kit can be purchased by paying cash in advance at any post office.

Priced at Rs 945, the kit will contain 60 cards with instructions on common English usage, sentences, construction and grammar. It will also contain 2 audio CDs to help students pronounce words correctly and a "Masterji Guide" that will emphasise on grammar, said Mr V. Rajagopalan, Chairman, VETA. VETA expects to sell about 41,000 kits this year through this channel. The company plans to tie-up with other postal circles in India for this service, said Mr Rajagopalan.

Ms Radhika Doraiswamy, Chief Post Master General, Tamil Nadu Circle, said the department was open to such tie-ups. "At present, about 5 per cent of our revenues come from such retail business. We plan to increase this percentage in future," she said. In the tie-up with VETA, the department would get a commission of 15 per cent of the kit value (about Rs 142) for every kit sold. The department is also looking for tie-ups with banks to provide micro finance options, she said.
