Info-Tech - Internet Monster registered base to cross 1 cr in India V.Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Sept. 22 The online recruitment industry is rocking in India with Monster.com, a global job portal, poised to cross the one-crore registered user base in afewdays. The conventional wisdom of comparing the penetration of the Internet with the population does not hold good here. If you measure the user percentage as against population, everything looks small. In absolute numbers, it has actually acquired about 45-50 per cent of the recruitment ad share. This is remarkable given the fact that the online recruitment industry in India has been a relatively late starter. Speaking to Business Line, the President and Managing Director - Asia, Monster.com, Mr Arun Tadanki, said the shift in terms of mind share, the online job portals and the recruitment industry have brought about in the country both from industry and Monster perspective is significant. Globally, the online recruitment industry size is estimated at about $ 2.5 billion and what started with the US market has gradually shifted to Europe and Asia. "On an average, Monster registers about 16,000 to 20,000 users a day. By the end of the week, we expect to cross one-crore registered users and now have 25,000 employers, across sectors, who use the site and about 1200 to 1400 get inducted per month. Recruiters complement this number," he added. The newspaper industry has been the traditional medium of advertising for jobs. Globally, Internet accounts for about 20 per cent of the ad share, but some markets such as India are now close to 50 per cent and are growing at about 100 per cent per cent year-on-year. Monster India has constantly brought about innovations in the way people access their Web Site and the accent is on making the interface simpler. One such effort is the roll out of the Magic Search, which provides precision in accessing the database. Developed in India and introduced recently, Monster plans to roll out globally, he said. "We continue to innovate to stay ahead. Now, the effort is to deliver mobile updates as the base has swelled past the 70-million mark," he said. Asked about some concerns about secrecy of the registered users and protection from current employer, he explained there is option to block some aspects of the resume with a facility to send encrypted emails.
