Dunlop to resume operations at Sahagunj next month

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Sept. 23

Dunlop India is expecting to resume operations at its Sahagunj facility in West Bengal by the middle of next month.

Though the final estimates are not yet available, company insiders say that the cost of refurbishing and modernisation of the facility may surpass their initial estimates.

The company resumed maintenance work at the Sahagunj facility after initial disruptions in June.

According to sources, the work is progressing as per schedule and is likely to be completed in the second week of October.

Unlike the Ambattur facility, which produces mostly truck-bus tyres, the Sahagunj facility has capacity to produce the entire range of tyres as well as industrial rubber products. Both the production lines will resume operations next month.

Cross-ply tyres

Meanwhile, Dunlop truck-bus cross-ply tyres produced at Ambattur had hit the replacement market today after prolonged absence.

According to sources, to begin with the company has targeted the South Indian market and would slowly enhance its reach when production capacities would reach the targeted 130 tonnes in December.

After more than two-month-long refurbishment and maintenance, Ambattur facility resumed operations on August 27 this year.
