Mixed trend in Kochi tea auction

Mixed trends were observed in the dust and leaf sale at the Kochi tea auction. The auction had 9.12 lakh kg of dust tea on offer. Prices of CTC varieties were lower by Rs 2-3, and sometimes more when the sale opened. As the sale progressed, the prices became steady to around last week's levels and sometimes dearer. Orthodox high grown varieties remained firm, while mediums were quoted lower. Best CTC dust was quoted at Rs 60-75, medium CTC at Rs 56-60 and below medium at Rs 45-54. High grown BOPD was at Rs 116, medium BOPD at Rs 52 and secondaries were quoted at Rs 47-51.

Leaf Sale

There was 2.69 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction. Orthodox medium, primary brokens and whole leaf grades remained firm to dearer. Prices of brokens and fannings tended to ease. High grown varieties remained firm. Prices of CTC varieties moved up by Rs 1-2 for all categories.

Best Nilgiri leaf varieties were quoted at Rs 75-87, medium orthodox at Rs 58-80 and plain orthodox at Rs 50-53. Best CTC leaf varieties commanded a price of Rs 52-61, while medium CTC was at Rs 48-55.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD commanded the top price in the dust segment at Rs 116, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 98 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 91. In the leaf section, Chamraj OP commanded Rs 117, followed by Kodanad BOPF Rs 104.75, Chamraj FOP Rs 102 and Havukal BOPF at Rs 102.
