Shyam brand makes a mark in steel industry

Shyam brand TMT bars and structural steel materials have found its use to the major infrastructure development projects undertaken by the Government.

Shyam Steel, which has already carved a niche in the steel industry, had a modest beginning in 1950 with the setting-up of a small rolling mill with a Japanese plant and machinery and technology to run it.

In the last five decades, the company has made rapid strides, and made its presence felt in the country's industrial map. The company has two rolling mills in Howrah and a fully automated modern integrated steel plant at Angadpur, Durgapur, West Bengal.

Shyam brand

It manufactures corrosion resistant TMT bars (CRS TMT) and CRS billets especially for use in construction in coastal areas.

Shyam brand TMT bars and structural steel materials have found their use in the major infrastructure development projects undertaken by the Government including highway projects, metro railway projects, defence establishments, the Railways etc., directly or through contractors such as Larsen & Toubro, Gammon India, Cementation, HCC, Simplex etc.

The steel products are also sold to the household sector through a 400 dealer network in the eastern region and also in the other States.

Technology

The integrated plant has a combination of the world's best technology, with the billet casting plant having a modular casting technology from Concast AG, Zurich and the rolling mill plant having thermex technology from HSE Germany.

It is also integrated with a sponge iron unit, and the company is now planning to add a captive power plant to generate electricity from the waste heat of the sponge iron plant.

Total quality management

Since inception, Shyam Steel has adopted total quality management aiming at zero failure for its products. The customer-centric focus has made it possible for the company to match international quality bench marking. An ISO 9001-2000 company, it enjoys the status of being the oldest and largest conversion agent of SAIL for TMT bars, CRS TMT bars and structural steel materials in the easternregion. The Group's turnover touched the Rs 400-crore mark in 2005-06.

Shyam Steel is heading towards greater success by extending its steel making activities in West Bengal and the neighboring states to expand capacities. The company functions from its headquarters in Kolkata and has branches all over the country.

At the helm is Mr Shyam Sunder Beriwala, an eminent personality with a wealth of experience in steel industry in India and abroad.
