Education States - Tamil Nadu `Learn & perfect Dantotsu for success' Our Bureau
Chennai , Sept. 27 Top five priorities that a company would be looking from their prospective employees are awareness about self; awareness about company; awareness about their work preferences that tap into their potentials quite naturally; who they are energised by and their expectations from the supervisors who can create the best conditions for their performance. Learn and perfect Dantotsu which in Japanese means `better than the best, by 5 times any time' for success in the professional life, said Mr R. Shekar, Executive Vice-President, (Corporate Strategy & Business Excellence), Polaris Software Lab, Chennai, to nearly 600 students of SRM School of Management under the BL Club lecture series. The motivation to buy any product stems from the value it offers. "If you don't perceive any value, you will not buy the product. Likewise, employers would prefer those in whom they perceive a value proposition. Similar are the organisations. You will find more takers if you have more value as a knowledge product or else no takers," he said. Therefore, the task is to "ensure that your capabilities remain current, fight obsolescence, otherwise you will find yourself in no man's land," warned Mr Shekar. A fully engaged professional is measured by how one is physically engaged, emotionally connected, mentally focused and spiritually aligned. Difference between an amateur management graduate and professional management graduate is the extent of internalisation of concepts and confidence to apply them to the situations in day-to-day business, he said. "For maximum happiness at work, top three most critical factors are appreciation of the self, discovering your passion and in doing what you are good at." "Do you want to attain enlightenment? Then accept that you are confused. It will lead you to enlightenment. Confusion comes from lack of choice, vision, direction and goal." He was also critical of the organisations by saying that, "The CEO and the immediate supervisor can make or break an employee's commitment to the organisation." He further added that the quality of assignment, quality of coaching and career relevance as the top three considerations that decides whether your employees stay with you in the first five years! Dr Jayshree Suresh, Dean (SoM), Prof R. Venkatramani, Dean (Engineering and Technology), Dr Y. Lokesh Chandhri, Vice-President, Students Association of Management Studies, were also present on the occasion.
