Dakshina Kannada banks net Rs 12,509-cr business

Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have crossed business levels of Rs 12,509 crore as on June 2006. The business achieved by 360 branches includes deposits of Rs 7,642 crore and advances of Rs 4,867 crore.

This information was conveyed during the District Consultative Committee and district-level Review Committee meeting for banking development here on Thursday. The meet was organised by Syndicate Bank.

In his welcome address, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, expressed satisfaction over the increase in credit-deposit ratio from 56 per cent to 64 per cent, and disbursement levels under the District Credit Plan for 2006-07. He called upon bankers to fulfil their commitments in lending to small and medium enterprises.

The meeting was informed that the banks had disbursed Rs 525 crore till June-end under the District Credit Plan. Under the priority sector, Rs 323 crore had been disbursed in the first quarter. The lending under this sector includes Rs 210 crore to agriculture, Rs 22 crore to small-scale industries and Rs 91 crore to other priority sector.

The meeting was also informed that 33,842 self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed in the district. Of these, 29,541 SHGs have been credit-linked to the tune of Rs 171 crore.
