Consumer organisations on Thursday came in support of the proposed change in law that seeks to make household remedies more accessible by way of sales through grocery stores.

A draft notification seeks to do away the restriction on selling over-the-counter (OTC) medicines only through chemist stores. "The proposed amendments are a boon to the consumers in remote areas, where medical help for even headache and diarrhoea are difficult to come by," said Dr A.R. Shenoy, Chairman of Consumer Guidance Society of India, Mumbai, at a workshop.
