UniverCell launches portal

Our Bureau

Chennai , Sep 29

UniverCell, a Chennai-based retail chain that sells mobile phones and accessories, has targeted revenues of Rs 3,000 crore by 2009, according to Mr Sathish Babu, Managing Director. The company recorded revenues of Rs 72 crore this fiscal.

Speaking at the launch of the company's e-shop portal, www.univercell.in, today, he said that the company would have 300 retail outlets across the country by 2009 from seven currently, and these would drive the huge projected growth.

The company expects to sell about two lakh units next year through the portal.

It currently sells about 2.4 lakh units a year over the counter at the retail outlets.

The Web site would make available more than 300 models across brands, as well as accessories, special deals and offers.

Users can also recharge their prepaid cards - currently only for users with Hutch and Airtel - as well as download mobile content such as wallpapers and ringtones. EMI options would be made available shortly.

The Web site also provides comparison options, where the user can compare the features of any of the 300 plus models on display.

Mr Babu said that even before the formal launch the Web site has registered close to seven lakh visitors per day.

Delivery would be made on the same day of purchase. The payment gateway is provided in partnership with Citibank.
