Gets Govt clearance for daily non-stop service; to operate on Delhi-Colombo-Mahe route

New Delhi , Oct. 3

Air Sahara is all set to become the first private sector airline to operate non-stop flights between India and China. The Government has approved the airline proposal to operate a daily non-stop service between Delhi and Guangzhou.

In addition, it has also been permitted to operate a daily flight on the Delhi-Colombo-Male sector. The airline plans to utilise its Boeing 767 aircraft on the China route, while a Boeing 737-800 aircraft would be deployed on the India-Sri Lanka-Maldives route.

At present, Air India is the only Indian carrier to operate flights to China, while China Eastern and Air China operate flights from China to India.

India and China recently signed a bilateral air services agreement that has allowed more airlines to operate flights between them.

The Government has also permitted Indian to start operating a five-times-a-week flight on the Bangalore-Male sector. At present, the airline operates a daily flight on the Thiruvananthapuram-Male sector.

Besides, the Government has also designated Jet Airways as one of the airlines to operate flights between India and Thailand. The airline has already announced that it would look to operate flights from Delhi and Kolkata to Bangkok.

Sources indicated that all the flights would be operational during the winter schedule of the airlines, which globally starts at the end of this month.
