Cement stocks up on price hike hopes

Select cement stocks finished on a firm note on Wednesday even when the benchmarks succumbed to selling pressure.

According to brokers, market participants expect cement prices to go up by Rs 5-8 a bag. Despite the severe rainfall and floods in the country, cement prices remained firm during the monsoon. The southern and western regions have already registered a rise in cement prices on a year-on-year basis, according to them. They expect the cement despatches to regain their momentum on the back of a pick-up in the construction activity post-monsoon. Stocks that finished on firm note included Dalmia Cement (Bharat) and JK Cement while GA Cement, India Cements, UltraTech and Grasim ended marginally lower after hitting intra-day high levels.
