Railways Marketing - Strategy Garib Rath fares lower than AC III tier Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 4 Despite pegging the fares for `Garib Rath', the first low-cost AC train, almost 50 per cent lower than other AC train travel, Indian Railway officials said the train is likely to earn Rs 2.5 lakh more than earnings for Rajdhani Express trains per trip of about 1650 km. A passenger travelling from Saharsa to Amritsar (about 1650 km) will have to pay Rs 695 for AC III tier in Garib Rath. If passengers travel by AC-III tier in other express train, they would have to pay Rs 1,279 for the journey. Both the fares include Rs 115 extra charges consisting of safety surcharge (Rs 60), reservation charge (Rs 25) and superfast charge (Rs 30). Similarly, AC chair car travel would be priced at Rs 595 for the entire distance against about Rs 1,000 charged by AC chair car travel in other trains. Garib Rath will have 24 coaches as against an average of 17. In effect, it would carry 1,828 passengers as against 799 by Rajdhani trains.
