UPA, Left meet remains inconclusive

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct 4

The four Left parties supporting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government from outside remained dissatisfied after today's meeting of the UPA-Left Co-ordination Committee, with the Government not accepting their views on issues ranging from Special Economic Zones (SEZs), farmer suicides and foreign investments to public distribution systems and pending Bills such as the Banking Sector Amendment Bill, Pension Bill and the Women's Reservation Bill.

The only decision taken in the meeting was that the Women's Reservation Bill would be introduced in its current format in the coming winter session of Parliament.

For further deliberations on economic issues, the committee would again meet in November before the winter session begins.

The meeting discussed food security and public distribution system, privatisation and financial sector liberalisation, said the CPI National Secretary, Mr D. Raja. The RSP leader, Mr Abani Roy, said that the Government does not agree with the views of the Left parties, submitted earlier, and as such no decision could be reached at.
