Security Data steal media glare
The media is in a bit of a dilemma on how to report the alleged data theft from Indian BPOs. The industry association, Nasscom, cautions against excessive publicity as such incidents take place in other countries too but are not played up by their media. Second, BPO industry sources say that after political protests in the US and the UK failed to stop companies there from outsourcing to India, a new method of sting operations is being tried to create insecurity among the general public there so that they pressure companies not to outsource. The lure of money can always attract a morally weak BPO employee, they contend. At the same time, when a data theft incident happens, it surely raises security concerns regarding Indian companies and it is simply not possible for the Indian media not to take note of it.
