Money & Banking - Trade & Labour Unions
One-day protest by GIC staff

Our Bureau

Chennai, Oct. 5

Over 40,000 employees of the four public sector general insurance companies went on a one-day strike today. The strike was called to protest the Transfer and Mobility Policy, described by unions as arbitrary.

The four public sector companies had issued over 4,000 transfers across the country on September 29. Union officials said that no business transaction could be carried out even in the few places where offices had been kept open. The unions have warned that the agitation would be intensified if their objections to the Transfer Policy were not resolved.
