Rubber prices improve

Aravindan

Kottayam , Oct. 5

The physical rubber prices improved on Thursday. A buoyant mood in Japanese futures catalysed the domestic bull run initiated by the covering groups and purchase agents. Certain major manufacturers were also active in the market along with participants from the non-tyre sector.

Sheet rubber moved up to Rs 79.50 from Rs 78.50 and Rs 79.00 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi. Meanwhile, scattered rains disrupt tapping in certain plantation areas, sources said.

Futures gain

The rubber futures made handsome gains as most of the traders turned optimistic following a technical turnaround in all contracts. On NMCE, the October delivery was quoted at Rs 83.00 (Rs 80.17), November at Rs 80.44 (Rs 77.12), December at Rs 81.75 (Rs 78.00) and January at Rs 82.98 (Rs 79.04) per kg for RSS 4.

The November futures for RSS 3 rose to 225.7 Yen (Rs 87.67) from 219.9 Yen a kg at TOCOM.

Spot prices were (Rs a kg) : RSS-4: 79.50 ( 78.50); RSS-5: 78.00 (77.50); ungraded: 77 (76.50); ISNR 20: 77.50 (77.00) and latex 60 per cent: 61.05 (60.50).
