Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has tied up with Centre Institute of Agriculture Engineering (CIAE) for research and development in farm supplements. Supplements help the tractor carry out multi-functional activities at any given point of time, trimming costs and time.

The idea is to make the tractor and its supplements user-friendly for other sectors besides the farm sector, said top officials.

Specialised institutes like CIAE offer information on agriculture engineering and help the company to understand the market on a real time basis. M&M has also tied up with other leading universities abutting the rich farmlands in north India.

The company is simultaneously working with leading universities like Indian Institute of Technology on alternative fuel technologies such as bio-diesel and hybrid engines. The tie-up extends to areas such as auto-software, mechatronics (combination of mechanical electronics), material technology, and vehicle design.

Fresh know-how has helped broaden the product range of the company. It had earlier, introduced the CRDi (Common Rail Direction Injection) technology on their flagship model, Scorpio that later migrated to the Tourister bus. The company now plans to introduce 75-80 bhp tractors with the same technology primarily for exports.
