The National Institute of Securities Markets, the educational institution being set up by SEBI, will start functioning from January next year.

The institute is to be located on the outskirts of Mumbai with the Maharashtra government offering land near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The institute will offer courses in subjects related to securities market activities.

Initial investment is estimated at Rs 160 crore, though the total expenditure would go up to Rs 300 crore.

SEBI plans to seek financial support from large Indian corporates and multinational agencies such as ADB, IFC and World Bank.
