Shipping States - Andhra Pradesh KoPT container handling at all-time high Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 6 In September 2006, Kolkata Dock System has handled 24,383 TEUs marking a 28.63 per cent growth in container traffic handling compared with 18,956 TEUs in the corresponding month in 2005. According to a press release issued by the Kolkata Port Trust, this is a "new landmark" and it surpassed the previous high of 21,309 TEUs registered in August this year. "So far as the performance of the first six months of the current fiscal is concerned, the container traffic at Kolkata Dock System reveals an average growth of 17.25 per cent vis-à-vis the corresponding period of 2005-06," the release stated. Kolkata Port Trust as a whole, which includes Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock System, handled 34,657 TEUs and it surpassed the previous high of 30,564 TEUs handled in August 2006.
