Prices ease at Kochi tea auction

High priced CTC dust varieties tended to ease at the Kochi tea auction by Rs 2-3, while medium and below medium varieties fell by Re 1 to Rs 2. Prices of orthodox high grown varieties eased by Rs 4, while medium varieties remained steady.

There was 10,86,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the auction. Exporters operated on medium bolder CTC varieties, while blenders remained selective on good liquoring varieties.

Best CTC dust varieties realised Rs 56-70, medium CTC fetched Rs 52-55 and below medium varieties were at Rs 45-50. High grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 110 and secondaries were quoted at Rs 46.

Leaf Tea

There was 2,14,000 kg of leaf tea on offer, which found good demand. Prices of medium orthodox varieties were lower on subdued demand. High grown prices remained steady to firm. CTC prices eased by Re 1 to Rs 2, while high grown orthodox varieties witnessed good enquiries from exporters. Clean black CTC fannings also witnessed good demand from exporters.

Best Nilgiri leaf was quoted at Rs 77-90, medium orthodox at Rs 55-76 and plain orthodox at Rs 48. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 52-56, while medium orthodox was quoted at Rs 49-52.

In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 110, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 91, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 89, Pasuparai SD at Rs 73 and Highfield SRD at Rs 73. In the leaf segment, Kodanad BOPF fetched the top price at Rs 107, Havukal BOPF t Rs 105, Chamraj OP at Rs 102 and Glendale FP at Rs 95.
