GoAir ties up with Goa Tourism

Prakash Kamat

To develop common brand `GoGoa'

Panaji , Oct. 6

Having identified leisure travel sector in addition to business travel as key driver for growth, low cost airline GoAir has announced its tie-up with Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), to help it improve its capacity utilisation while boosting State's tourism by developing a common brand "GoGoa".

According to Mr Raj Halve, Chief Commercial Officer of GoAir, the initiative is similar to the already existing agreement that GoAir has with Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and soon to sign with Rajasthan Tourism.

He explained that the move is to reduce the seasonality experienced in the tourism industry for mutual benefits.

GoAir would devise methods and packages in association with State tourism corporations to try and do away with the bias towards weekend travel and increase frequency of travellers to these leading destinations.

GoAir will also leverage Goa as a tourism destination is in international circles. As Goa was heavily relying on charters, Mr Halve said Goa was missing out on a major portion of another segment of foreign tourists, which comes through international flights via international travel agencies. The airline is looking for tie-up with leading international tour operators to include Goa as part of their itinerary to attract a major portion of this segment too.

The airline had announced the commencement of its Delhi-Goa flights earlier this month and is also looking at increasing the frequency of daily flights between Goa and Mumbai.

Through this tie-up, GoAir passengers will get special rates at prime GTDC hotels and winners of promotions on GoAir will win free stay in GTDC properties across the State. GTDC will market the brand through its national and international network.
