Our Bureau

The Integral Coach Factory (ICF), a production unit of the Ministry of Railways, has manufactured a cumulative 37,000 coaches since its inception in 1955.

The annual installed capacity of ICF is 1,000 coaches and it produced 1,175 last year, the highest ever by the factory in a production year. ICF is now planning to produce 1,500 coaches by modernising its capabilities.

The ICF was started with the technical collaboration of Swiss Cars and Elevators, Switzerland. Jawaharlal Nehru flagged off the first rail coach shell from ICF on October 2, 1955. Started to assemble third-class passenger coach shells, ICF today makes over 230 varieties of railways passenger coaches. It also specialises in design, development and commissioning of self-propelled coaches such as electric multiple units, diesel electrical multiple units and tourist coaches such as Palace on Wheels and Deccan Odyssey.
