Bigger role for NGOs in development plans to be discussed

Coinciding with the conference, IBA is organising a banking exhibition that would bring constituents of the industry to display their progress

MR K. RAMAKRISHNAN

Hyderabad , Oct. 8

Hyderabad would be hosting Bancon 2006, the two-day Indian banking conclave, at the Hyderabad international convention centre here from November 3-4.

The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, would inaugurate the conclave of chiefs of Indian public, private and foreign banks, with the RBI Governor, Dr Y.V. Reddy, participating in the key deliberations.

Andhra Bank is hosting the bankers' conference this year with organisational support from the Indian Banks' Association (IBA).

The conclave, with the theme `Inclusive Growth - A New Challenge', is aimed at deliberations on various aspects of the industry with key focus on inclusive growth, according to the Andhra Bank Chairman and Managing Director, Mr K. Ramakrishnan.

Banking exhibition

Coinciding with the Bancon, IBA is organising a banking exhibition that would bring various constituents to display their progress. The expo would showcase recent developments in technology, process management, logistics, banking products and distribution and delivery channels.

It would also deliberate on the scope of inclusive growth in a competitive and market driven framework so that all the players, including state-owned, private and foreign banks, have level playing field and enough incentives to expand the scope and extent of their engagement, he said.

"In view of the NGOs emerging as an important linkage to transmit and quite often manage developmental initiatives, the conclave would also look at closely the scope for more intense engagement of NGOs in the implementation of developmental programmes," Mr Ramakrishnan said.
