Rupee gains against dollar

After two days, the rupee gained by about 8 paise against the dollar on Wednesday. It gained as dealers unwound long positions. Good results from Infosys was a positive. "Dealers squared deals ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting, to be held later today. The rupee's movement will be clearer tomorrow," said a forex dealer.

The domestic currency opened at 45.84 and closed at 45.65 against the previous close of 45.72/73. The dollar did not see much movement against other currencies. Forward premia went up slightly. The 6-month closed at 1.44 per cent (1.36 per cent), and the 12-month ended at 1.42 per cent (1.37 per cent).
