Apollo forays into health insurance

Apollo Hospitals group has signed a joint venture agreement with Deutsche Krankenversicherung AG of Germany for setting up a stand-alone health insurance company.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd will hold 20 per cent in the Rs 100-crore equity capital of Apollo DKV Insurance Company, while other companies of the Apollo group will hold another 54 per cent. The German partner will hold 26 per cent — the most a foreign entity is allowed by law.

Apollo DKV Insurance Company will first start business with in-patient products as well as travel health insurance products. Comprehensive cover products, outpatient products and hospital cash policies will be added in the near future, the release says.
