Soyameal exports double

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Oct. 11

Soyameal exports during the oil year ended September 2006 have doubled from last year (October 2004 - September 2005). The large carryover stocks of about eight lakh tonnes and better crop size of 72 lakh tonnes (62 lakh tonnes 2004-05) boosted the exports, said Mr Rajesh Agrawal, the spokesman and coordinator of Soyabean Processors Association of India.

The high carryover stocks were the result of fall in the domestic consumption on account of bird flu.

In spite of 100 per cent rise in exports, there has not been any improvement in the price parity, which was in the range of $185-210 f.o.b. last oil year. Currently, the price of soyabean meal is ranging between $190 and $205 f.o.b.

India exports soyameal mainly to countries such as Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, and China.
