Super jets XRS capable of flying 11,390 km non-stop. Unit price estimated at around $ 45.5 million. GMR to import Falcon 2000 for non-scheduled operations
New Delhi , Oct. 11 The Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries is set to join another exclusive club - that of a handful of corporates owning the ultra long range business jet, Global Express XRS aircraft. The proposal of Reliance to import the aircraft for `private use' has been cleared by the Aircraft Acquisition Committee (AAC) of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Private use
The aircraft, capable of flying 11,390 km non-stop, would be able to operate non-stop from India to most major points in Europe and touch down in the US after making one stop. The unit price of the aircraft, which would be used by senior officials of the company including Executive Directors, is estimated at around $ 45.5 million. The cabin can be laid out for 8 to 19 passengers and the customised interior layouts can include office, stateroom or conference style areas. The aircraft being imported will be among the latest private jets in the Indian skies. The first flight of the new aircraft was in January 2005 and it entered service in December the same year. The Group already has a fleet of three aircraft including a Global Express aircraft.
GMR proposal
In addition, the AAC also cleared the proposal of GMR Industries Ltd to import a Falcon 2000 aircraft for non-scheduled operations. "The aircraft would be imported for operating air charters. The aircraft being imported has the capability of flying for 8-9 hours with up to 10 passengers, thereby allowing it to operate intercontinental flights also," sources indicated. The Government has cleared the proposal for the launch of two new airlines - International Air Charter Operations (I) Private Ltd and Surya Airlines Private Ltd.
