Opinion - Letters
Checking corruption

This is with reference to "PM favours public, pvt partnership in infrastructure" (Business Line, October 8): In his address to the infrastructure conference, the Prime Minister pointed out the conditions necessary for the success of public-private partnerships (PPPs). The role of watchdog institutions that audit the performance of each such projects and ensure that the decisions are in conformity with the government's guidelines cannot be minimised, especially when our country is high on the corruption index. The recent criticism of the watchdogs by the Civil Aviation Minister is thus unwarranted. The Prime Minister should at the earliest occasion to emphasise the role and importance of watchdog institutions.
