THE UNION MINISTER of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu (extreme right), with the General Manager of SCR, Mr D.N. Mathur, at the inaguration of the Rail Museum on SCR's Ruby Jubilee celebrations in Secunderabad on Thursday. - G. Krishnaswamy

Hyderabad , Oct. 12

Licensed Telegraph Book (1854-55). Weighing machine (1886). Rail Sleeper (1874). Dating machine, badges box, mobile ticket counter bell that was used at Selu Railway Station during Nizam State Railway in 1899. Bell jar alarm of 1925.

Wondering what this list is all about? These are some of the artefacts on display at the Heritage Museum, opened by Mr R. Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways, here on Thursday.

Opened as part of the `Ruby Jubilee' celebrations (the zone completed 40 years of its existence) of the South Central Railway, the museum showcases the relics, taking one through the vintage days of the Indian Railways in this part of the country.

Most of the exhibits look archaic. But they played an important role in the evolution of the railways over the years. Also, they would make one wonder how the staff of yesteryears ensured a safe and comfortable travel experience by making use of the exhibits. Impressed, Mr Velu said the zone had become a role model for other zones.

Later, the Minister took the salute at the passing out parade of the 36th batch of 467 recruits of the Railway Protection Force.
