Eastern Rly adds 96 EMU coaches in Howrah division

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Oct. 13

The Howrah Division of Eastern Railway recently began operating three EMU (Electrical Multiple Units) rakes consisting of 12 coaches on the busy 40-km Howrah-Bandel and 107-km Howrah-Barddhaman suburban traffic sections.

Of these, 26 are running between Howrah and Bandel, four between Howrah and Seoraphuli, and two between Howrah and Barddhaman

Totally 32 trains, including seven peak hour locals, now run in the corridor with the help of these three rakes. And with the addition of the 12-coach rakes, Howrah Division now runs 96 extra coaches daily in the suburban section. The result is a sharp increase in carrying capacity — around 25,000 more suburban passengers — in EMU trains per day.
