Volumes low at Coonoor tea auctions

The volume catalogued for this week's auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) was at a five-week low at 8.96 lakh kg.

This is about 50,000 kg less than last week's offer. This time last year, as much as 10.96 lakh kg was offered.

Of the 8.96 lakh kg, 6.35 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 2.61 lakh kg to dust grades.

Again, 8.16 lakh kg belong to the CTC variety and only 0.77 lakh kg to orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox variety is low in both the leaf and dust categories.
