Coimbatore , Oct. 13

Swiss textile machinery manufacturing company SSM Scharer Schweiter Mettler AG, a global leader in yarn processing and precision winding machinery, has set up its India liaison office in Coimbatore.

The liaison office with a backup of six textile engineers will extend support service for its customers and will provide improved customer service and shortening of communication time, according to a communication from SSM's General Manager - Liaison office, Mr Arne Jaeger.

The Union Government's recent approval of 26 textile parks under the scheme of integrated textile parks (SITP) and the allocation of Rs 850 crore for establishment of infrastructure underlined the importance India puts on the textile industry, Mr Jaeger said. He added that SSM's new office marked the importance the Swiss company has attached to the sub-continent, in general, and the Indian market, in particular.

Mr Jaeger said his company has set a target to achieve 100 per cent increase in sales for 2006 and has doubled its turnover in India in 2005 over the 2004 levels. The Coimbatore office will support this effort.

The Swiss company's textile division, besides the yarn processing and winding machinery under SSM, has two other manufacturing activities under Stahle Eltex, which produces the air texturising machinery and Hacoba that produces the sewing thread winders. The official launch of the Coimbatore liaison was held on Thursday.
