Hyderabad , Oct. 13

Even as Andhra Pradesh gears up for the procurement phase, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies, has asked officials to ensure that there is no distress sale by farmers.

Holding a videoconference with the officials of marketing and civil supplies here on Friday, the Minister asked them to plug the gaps in order to meet the targets in the kharif season. "No farmer should sell his produce even one rupee less than the minimum support price," he said.

He called for a co-ordinated effort by the departments concerned to meet the target of 20 lakh tonnes of paddy this kharif.

NAFED ENTRY

Addressing a press conference later, the Minister said NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) had come forward to procure another two lakh tonnes this season.

The Markfed (Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Marketing Federation) would take the responsibility of procuring pulses and maize. Apart from Markfed centres, about 350 centres of Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) self-help groups, 163 centres of Food Corporation of India and 238 centres of AP Civil Supplies Corporation would join the procurement process.
