Human Resources Industry & Economy - Employment `Retail, media, FMCG sectors on a hiring spree' Our Bureau,
Bangalore , Oct. 13 Retail, media and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) have taken a leap to join the league of information technology and financial services sectors in the employment outlook survey made by an independent agency. TeamLease India, a staffing solutions company, had in its survey indicated the highest index points of 95 for hiring by the retail, media and FMCG sectors followed by IT with 94 and financial services 91. In the survey for the quarter October to December, all sectors are expected to increase their hiring, the main drivers being the services and FMCG sectors. The survey covered 490 companies across eight cities Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Bangalore projects the highest Business Outlook Index point, followed by Mumbai and Delhi, in the next three months with a major contribution from retail, media, FMCG, infrastructure and financial services. According to Ms Nirupama V.G., Associate Director, TeamLease, "given the buoyancy in the market and the expectation of 10 million people to be recruited every year (as per the Planning Commission Report), the employment market is likely to witness a rapid growth in the next few years." The survey also suggests that against the national average of 80 index points, Mumbai with 98, Delhi 93 and Bangalore 84 had the largest employment base indicating that most of the companies would be hiring in these cities. Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune trailed these cities. Even cities such as Kolkata with index points below the national average reflect larger hiring activities. Bulk of the recruitment will be at the junior level at 86 per cent. Hiring trends across functions project marketing as the highest performer at 31 per cent followed by IT 18 per cent, production 17 per dent, finance and others (customer service, quality assurance and maintenance) 11per cent, administration 8 per cent and human resource 4 per cent.
