Legasis to offer IT-enabled, value-added solutions to MNCs and foreign law firms

Pune , Oct. 13

Law firm DSK Legal on Friday announced the setting up of Legasis Services, a comprehensive one-stop legal process outsourcing venture that will offer IT-enabled, value-added solutions to multinational corporations and foreign law firms.

The company launched its new delivery centre for the venture in Pune with an investment of Rs 5.5 crore, with twenty lawyers already on board and the capacity to seat a 100 lawyers working in three shifts.

All services

Legasis will offer the entire spectrum of services in the legal space to companies wanting to outsource its legal functions such as contract drafting, document review, arbitration and litigations support, patents and intellectual property related services.

"We will initially target companies and law firms in Europe and the US, but demand is also rising in countries such as Australia, CIS countries and the far east," Mr Satish Kishanchandani, Partner of DSK Legal and Director of Legasis, said.

"Companies can make substantial savings in the cost by outsourcing these functions," Mr Suhas Tuljapurkar, Head of the delivery centre, said. The company is setting up teams of representatives in the US and European countries to tap the market in these regions.

LPO is an evolving business potential for Indian lawyers. While the global market spending on legal services exceeds $250 billion, companies are now heading towards LPOs to reduce costs up to 75per cent. Nasscom has projected the LPO business in India to go up to $3-4 billion in the next few years with Assocham predicting that the country's share in the business will go up from 3-4 per cent to 6-7 per cent by 2010.

The bulk of the LPO business is currently accounted for by patent outsourcing. While the cost of filing a US patent application is approximately $10,000-12,000, it is estimated that this can be brought down to $2,500, if outsourced.
