New Delhi , Oct. 13 Nasscom's `Emerging Companies Forum' expects to start its `Mentoring Programme' at all major locations in the country such as Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai over the next six months. Initiated in Bangalore about a month ago, it is aimed at providing guidance to emerging IT companies in rising up the value chain. "Today top four IT companies are going global, but there have to be efforts to ensure that mid-sized companies in the industry also grow," said Mr Krishnakumar Natarajan, President and CEO, Mind Tree Consulting Pvt Ltd, and one of the panellists for the mentoring programme.
Panellists' help
Under the programme, the mentorship panel will mentor companies individually. The panellists would identify various impediments that companies face in the context of human resources and raising funds from venture capitalists, among others. Mr Natarajan said today venture capital is readily available for companies with a clear strategy on how they would want to differentiate themselves from the rest and are emerging from mid-sized to high-end companies. But for firms that have yet to explore ways to differentiate themselves, experience of panellists who have an expertise in the particular area would enable them to be more competent. The programme has received around 12-13 applications in Bangalore, of which 4-5 will be short-listed. Since it is at a pilot stage, effectiveness would be monitored and depending upon further requirements to make it more relevant, the project will be started at all major IT hubs of the country. At present, the forum has about 900 members of which 20-30 per cent is actively involved in various programmes conducted under this forum.
