UCBs' home loan limit hiked

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Oct.. 17

Urban co-operative banks will now be allowed to grant individual home loans of up to Rs 25 lakh, against the earlier limit of Rs 15 lakh. "It has been decided to allow UCBs to extend individual housing loan up to the limit of Rs 25 lakh per beneficiary of a dwelling unit," notified the RBI. The stipulation that the amount of instalment and interest should not exceed 30 per cent of the income of the borrowers has also been dispensed with. Housing finance to borrowers availing themselves of loans above Rs 15 lakh will not be treated as priority sector lending.
